A fabric sash can be a colorful and versatile fashion accessory for both women and men. Rather than purchasing an expensive sash that may not exactly suit your style, find the perfect fabric and make your own sash to compliment any outfit.

Step 1

Determine the width of the sash. Multiply your desired width by two and add 1/2 inch. Cut 2 yards of the fabric at this width.

Step 2

Fold the chiffon fabric in half lengthwise with the insides of the fabric facing out. Place a press cloth over the fabric and press the fabric lightly with a medium-hot iron to set the fold. Trim both ends of the sash to 45-degree angles.

Step 3

Stitch the angled edges of the chiffon with a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Stitch along the long edge of the chiffon, leaving a 3-inch opening for turning.

Step 4

Turn the fabric right side out. Place a press cloth over the sash and press the sash well with a medium-hot iron to set the seams. Make sure the raw edges are turned under along the 1/4-inch seam allowance as you iron.

Step 5

Top stitch around the entire sash 1/8-inch away from the edges. The top stitching will sew closed the opening.
