Make Pillows From Old Sweatshirts

We all have them, those old sweatshirts we don't wear but can't throw out. They take up space in our closets and dressers, but the memories hold them tight to our lives. There is a simple solution to this problem: Make pillows out of them. Your old sweatshirt can turn into a pillow used for watching television or even taking a nap. Never again will you have to feel the pain and guilt of parting with your beloved sweatshirt.

Step 2

Insert your pillow or pillow insert into the sweatshirt. Adjust the pillow until it is where you want it to be.

Step 3

Pin all four sides around the pillow. This will become the outline for your pillow.

Step 4

Remove the pins on the bottom to remove the pillow.

Step 5

Sew along the pin line on all sides but the bottom, using a straight stitch on your sewing machine or a small running stitch by hand. Leave the bottom open.

Step 6

Trim the excess sweatshirt off, leaving about a 1-inch seam.

Step 7

Turn the shirt right side out and insert the pillow.

Step 8

Turn the edges of the unsewn bottom seam in and use a slipstitch to close the pillow. Make sure your thread coordinates with or matches your pillow.

Tip

Wash your sweatshirt before starting the project. Use a matching color of thread because the thread will be seen in some spots. If your shirt is really worn or has holes, place a piece of coordinating fabric on the inside and attach it when you sew.
