How Can I Play Music & Chat Through Voice Chat at the Same Time?

Since Internet became accessible to almost everyone, the demand for new programs with useful features has provoked the rise of new Software Companies and the development of new applications. Among these applications, Voice Chat is a modern form of communication popular among Internet users which allows two people to communicate through a USB microphone, regardless of their locations. This is a feature that can be found in communicative applications, such as Yahoo!, Google Talk, MSN Messenger, among others.

Playing Music and Chatting

  • To successfully chat through voice chat, you need to have the necessary equipment to do so. The most useful tool is a headset, which consists of headphones plus a USB microphone. For best quality, both parties (the user and the other speaker), should have efficient headphones. They should also count with favorable network traffic, in addition to having a good Sound Card. In case you haven't configured your USB Microphone to adapt it to your Sound Card yet, go to your Control Panel option in your PC and choose the Sound and Audio Devices icon. Verify if your Sound Card is already selected to play the Sound Recording Device. However, if by any chance it isn't selected, don't fret. Certain systems, like Windows XP, tend to reset this configuration every time you turn off your computer. Even though you take these configurations into consideration, it's expected for the user to run through some technical issues if the he wants to talk to someone and listen to music at the same time. Moreover, the quality of the music might be diminished by the voice over the speaker, or vice versa.

Playing Music in Chat Rooms

  • In order to play music in chat rooms, you need two things: a special program or knowledge of the basic features of your computer. Even though this is a very simple process, it actually depends on the type of sound card your computer works with. This procedure works with a Sound Blaster Live sound cards.
Open the Play Control Panel (the icon with a megaphone which is next to your clock (or next to other applications, depending on your computer)), and select "Properties." You will see two options: "Recording" and Playback. Select "Recording." After that, you will see a displayed list of many volume controls. Select "Record Master" and "Microphone" (in case the display list lacks any of these options, choose "Mic and Stereo Mixer" or "What You Hear" option), and then click on "OK" or "Apply." After that, go to the "Options" again and select "Advanced Controls." In the rightmost part of the panel, you will find two options: "Record Master" and "Microphone." Set the main level of Record Master Option to the fourth notch and click on "Select." this will enable you to play music in a Chat Room. To talk, open the Volume Control Panel again and select the "Microphone" column. This will allow you to talk through Voice Chat.
