- Essential oils combined with scalp massage can have a positive effect on thinning hair. Lavender can decrease further hair loss, and rosemary encourages new hair growth. To make an herbal remedy, begin with four ounces of almond oil. Mix six drops of lavender essential oil and six drops of bay essential oil together, and massage into your scalp. Leave the mixture in for 20 minutes. The herbs will help stimulate the scalp and allow blood and oxygen to flow to the scalp to clear the way for hair to grow. After 20 minutes, mix three drops of the bay essential oil into your shampoo and wash your hair as your normally would. Rinse as normal.
- Ginger can boost the circulation of your scalp and stimulate new hair growth. You will need ginger root, cheesecloth and sesame or olive oil. Grate the ginger and squeeze the juice out using the cheesecloth. You will get very little juice out, but try to get at least ¼ tsp. Mix the juice together with the oil and apply to your scalp and massage. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes then shampoo and rinse as normal.
- Since oily hair can clog pores and prevent nutrients from entering the hair root, be sure to use a pH-balanced shampoo and shampoo your hair often. Do not do too much blow-drying and avoid too much sun exposure as these can damage your hair. Take daily vitamins and minerals and eat healthy foods that include fresh fruits and vegetables. If you're a tea drinker, drink tea that contains herbs such as rosemary, nettle and horsetail.
