Medisoft Tutorial

Medisoft clinical software is a complete private practice solution intended for medical and dental offices. Medisoft tracks your patients, procedures, employees, billing and insurance, and works with smart phones such as the Blackberry. This is all tied in with a form generator for printing checks or bills, as well as insurance paperwork and standardized industry reports directly from the web.

Reports

  • The reports feature of Medisoft unifies all the common paperwork items needed on a regular basis. Once you input your employees and patients, you can click on a report that you need from a drop-down list, and Medisoft will fill out all the required information and lead you through a series of multiple-choice questions to finish the form. Medisoft makes sure that none of the critical sections are left blank and then stores all of this information in its database. The information storage is very important as it accesses its history when comparing medications and procedures, crosschecking for errors and incompatibilities that could lead to serious drug interactions. While there are several backup features to protect your clients' data and security, you should always have paper backups for critical information in case your data becomes corrupted.

Exporting

  • An often overlooked feature of the Medisoft software suite is its ability to export reports and information to other common applications. Medisoft uses a flat structured query language (SQL) database that allows for management in a relational data management system. This means that if you do use another software suite and wanted to export your old data into Medisoft or vice versa, you can actually do this without having to input all of your information from scratch. There are numerous third-party tools as well as officially supported scripts from Medisoft that will accomplish this for you.

Connectivity

  • One of the most popular features of Medisoft 13 plus is the introduction of an open application programming interface (API). This means that outside developers are able to tie in to the Medisoft platform through other devices such as Blackberry phones, iPhones and the T-Mobile G1. This is a very convenient option for most practices, but does require updated versions of Medisoft as well as additional training from the Medisoft Corporation, which is somewhat pricey. Make sure to use Medisoft certified programs for your mobile phone; otherwise, you can configure Medisoft to directly email you updates that you require. You also have the option to use a secure mobile connection to access Medisoft data over the Internet.
