Confetti cannons utilize a blast of pressurized gas to send a flurry of paper bits into the air. Confetti cannons are great for weddings, birthday parties or any other festive events. Of course, for your confetti cannon to make any kind of impact, you need to have confetti. You can purchase confetti from party-supply stores, but you can also make your own confetti to better suit your event.

    Confetti Paper Shredder

  1. You can purchase a special kind of paper shredder that will turn sheets of paper into tiny pieces of confetti. A confetti paper shredder can be purchased at your local office-supply store. Attach the paper shredder onto the top of a trash can if it doesn't already come attached to a bin. Feed your paper into the shredder. Use paper in several different colors to make your confetti more fun and festive. You can even choose paper in colors to match a theme, such as team colors for a sports banquet.
  2. Paper Punch

  3. Paper punches come in all different shapes and sizes. You can choose a paper punch to match a theme or just a fun shape. Smaller paper punches, about the size of a quarter or smaller, will work best for making confetti. Choose paper that is thin so that you can punch through several layers of paper at a time, which will speed up the confetti-making process. Craft stores carry all kinds of scrapbooking papers, including papers that are roughly as thick as tissue paper, which is ideal for making confetti. You may want to get more than one paper punch and some friends to help you because of the time involved in this confetti-making technique.
  4. Old-Fashioned Method

  5. You can use your hands or a pair of scissors to make confetti the old-fashioned way. Simply take several sheets of paper at a time and tear them into thin strips, about a half-inch thick. Tear all of your strips into small squares so that you end up with small pieces that are about a half-inch square. Thinner papers, such as tissue paper, will make this method easier. Use a paper slicer if you have one---it will help to speed up the process. Tear or cut your confetti right into a large trash bag for storage and to keep your workspace as clean as possible.
