"Cat eyes" is a term that refers to eyeliner applied to the upper eyelids and extended up and away from the outer eye corners to make the eyes appear to be a shape similar to cat eyes. This look is reminiscent of the more glamorous styles of the 1960s and can easily be toned down if you don't want to look too retro.
Apply just enough face makeup to cover up any imperfections without being too heavy. Your eyes should be the focal point of this look. Sweep a neutral colored eyeshadow (such as taupe or ivory) onto lids. Don't use a bright eyeshadow for this look--you want the eyeliner to stand out. Choose a black liquid eyeliner because pencil liner is not precise enough. Start at the inner corner and carefully trace along your eyelid, as close to your lash line as possible. Once you reach the outer corner of your eye, extend the eyeliner up toward your temple. The farther you extend the liner toward your temple, the more dramatic the look. Finish the look with a light coat of mascara and a neutral lip color. -
Dramatic eyelashes were a major part of the trendier, more fashion-forward crowd of the 1960s. Extremely full and thick eyelashes were the main focus and gave eyes a wide, innocent look. The easiest way to achieve this is to use false eyelashes. If you try to apply multiple coats of mascara, your lashes can become clumpy.
Choose false lashes that come in a full strip. These usually come in a kit with specialized eyelash adhesive. Before you try to attach the lash strip with adhesive, practice positioning it first. Place it on your top eyelid as close as possible to your lash line without actually touching your lashes. If the lash strip is too long to properly fit across your eye, carefully trim it from the inner corner to fit. Carefully apply a very thin layer of adhesive to the base of the lash strip, then place it on your eyelid near your lash line. Hold it in place for about five seconds, then repeat with the other eye.
Apply a coat of mascara on both your real lashes and the false ones to help conceal any gaps, then apply two coats to your bottom lashes to dramatically lengthen them. Keep the rest of your look as minimal as possible. - The makeup colors of the 1960s were bright, with lots of ivory, pinks, blues and greens. Smoky eyeshadow shades and dark lips weren't as fashionable during this decade. If you want to go for a colorful 1960s eye makeup style, choose a cream or liquid eyeshadow in a bright shade like blue or green and apply it across your lids, then sweep an ivory shade across your brow bones. Add black eyeliner and mascara to complete the look. Lip color wasn't as focused as eye color, but you can try a candy-pink lipstick or other light shade. Use the bare amount of foundation, concealer or blush because the face makeup styles were lighter than other decades.
