Turbo Cooker Cooking Guide

A turbo cooker is a table or countertop convection oven manufactured by several different companies. Most have a glass oven base so that you can watch your food cook. In some models, you can also fry, steam and dehydrate foods. No matter which brand of turbo oven you purchase, they all work basically the same way. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. How They Work

    • A turbo oven uses a fan to force hot air around the food in the oven. This causes foods to cook faster than in a traditional static oven. A turbo oven may also use less electricity than a standard oven. Turbo ovens are powered by a standard electrical outlet, so they are extremely portable and can be taken outdoors, camping or on vacation.

    Cooking in a Turbo Oven

    • Foods placed in a turbo oven to cook may be fresh or frozen. Frozen foods take approximately twice the time to cook as fresh. Place the glass oven bowl into the base. Insert the rack and lay the food to be cooked in a single layer on the rack. Leave a small amount of space between each item to allow the air to circulate. Lock the cover in place and plug the cord into an electrical outlet. Set the desired temperature and cooking time and start the oven. Refer to the user's guide to determine the proper heat and cooking times for individual food items (see Resources).

    Care of Your Turbo Oven

    • Always let the turbo oven cool down before cleaning it. Do not immerse the lid, which contains the fan, in water. Clean the lid with a soapy, damp sponge. The remainder of the oven can be cleaned in hot, soapy water and rinsed thoroughly. Use a plastic dish scrubby to remove baked-on grime. If your model is equipped with a self-cleaning cycle, place approximately 1 1/2 inches of water in the oven, add 2 squirts of dish soap and secure the lid in place. Set the machine to wash for 10 minutes. Turn the oven on and let it complete the cycle. Rinse the oven with warm water.
