Sew-in weave hair styles have many benefits, including flexibility and low maintenance, especially the curly and wavy styles. You can purchase wavy, straight or curly weave hair, either synthetic or human. Lengths from 8 to 22 inches are available. A sew-in weave hair style consists of a four-part process: wash and condition hair, braid natural hair, sew in weave, style weave as desired. The process takes one to two hours, depending on how long your natural hair is and how much hair you have decided to use in your sew-in weave.

    Wash and Condition Natural Hair

  1. Wet your natural hair completely and lather with shampoo. Completely rinse your hair. Towel it dry and condition it.
  2. Braid Natural Hair

  3. Once your natural hair is dry, braid it horizontally using the cornrow style. The cornrow braids should be tiny so the weave will not have a bulky appearance.
  4. Sew in Weave Hair

  5. Sew the weave hair (also known as the track) onto the braid. Use a curved shaped needle with thread that matches the weave hair. Sew the hair tight enough to secure it, but not so tight that it damages the natural hair or scalp. The crown of the head should be sewn tighter to secure the entire weave. Cut away excess thread.
  6. Style Weave Hair

  7. Style the weave hair as desired. For human hair, style as you would your natural hair. Do not apply heat to synthetic hair. Your weave style may last up to two months.
  8. Care for Your Weave Style

  9. Wash your weave hair as well as your natural hair every 7 to 14 days. Use gentle shampoo and a deep conditioner. After about seven or eight weeks, return to your stylist and have the weave removed.
