When people think "goth," they may not immediately think "blond." However, using a bleach lightening cream on your hair can give you a dreamy appearance that contrasts wonderfully with dark eye makeup and lips. Think Christina Ricci in Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow" or D'arcy Wretzky from the Smashing Pumpkins.
If you have darker hair, you may need to use a stronger peroxide developer. Developer comes in liquid or cream form, and is sold at 10, 20, 30 and 40 volume. Forty volume is typically used for highlighting and is not recommended for use on the entire head, since this can cause scalp burns and serious damage to your hair. Powdered bleach packets and developer can be purchased from any beauty supply store. Make sure you follow all the directions on the developer bottle, conducting a strand test beforehand to determine how long you will have to let the bleach set. The best way to apply the bleach mixture to your hair, especially if it is long, is by dividing your locks into four sections and applying the cream to each section with a tint brush. If you are lightening black hair, you may need two applications over a period of a couple weeks.
The next step to achieving white hair is by purchasing a white toner. This will take away any brassiness or yellow that is left over from using the bleach. The toner is heat-activated, so try wrapping your head in a plastic bag and leaving the toner in for about 20 minutes, checking on it every five minutes. -
Striped hair using bold colors and black is a great goth look. Although rather difficult to achieve, creating horizontal black stripes using a tint brush will give your hair a whimsical look, a la the Cheshire Cat.
For the best results, bleach your entire head before applying any dye. If you apply a bold color to brown or even dark blond hair, the color will be more subdued and it won't create as daring a statement. Dye your hair the base color; for example, if you want red and black striped hair, red would be the base color. Call a friend over to help you apply the other shade once you have rinsed and dried your hair. Have him use the tint brush to paint black stripes all the way around your head. - A simple way to create a goth look is by tipping your hair using a brightly colored dye such as red, electric blue, magenta or neon green. This looks great if you have snowy white or raven black hair. If you have black or darker-colored hair, bleach the ends two to three inches up and apply the selected color. This is a good solution if you are unsure of whether you want a bright color in your hair, since the ends can simply be snipped off if the desired effect isn't achieved.
