Many modern websites use Java programming to create dynamic content or animations with which visitors can interact. Once Java has been downloaded and installed on your PC computer, you can begin viewing webpages with Java. However, certain issues could arise between the Java software and the Windows XP operating system that could prevent the web pages from displaying correctly.

    Enabling Java

  1. If websites with Java content are now working properly on your PC computer, make sure that Java is enabled on your web browser. To enable Java in the Mozilla Firefox application, go to the "Tools" menu at the top of the window and select "Options." Then go to the "Content" tab at the top of the pop-up window and check the box next to "Enable Java." Click "OK" to save the settings and enable Java. In Internet Explorer, open the "Tools" section of the top menu bar and choose "Internet Options." After that, go to the "Advanced" tab and scroll down to the "Java" section. Make sure the box in the "Java" section is checked off, and then click "OK" to save the settings. Now that Java has been properly enabled, try to reload a web page with Java content to see if it displays properly.
  2. Updating Java

  3. If Java is enabled in your web browsers, but sites are still not displaying correctly, you may need to update the version of Java that you have installed on your PC. To check for new updates, open the Start menu and click on the "Control Panel" icon. Then double-click on the "Java" icon and go to the "Update" tab at the top of the window. Hit the "Update Now" button to check for an updated version of the Java software. If a newer version is found, you will be prompted to install the update. Make sure to restart your computer after installing a Java update to complete the installation process.
  4. Clearing the Cache

  5. After enabling and updating Java, the final troubleshooting step is to clear and reset the Java cache. This process will remove all Java configuration files from your hard drive, which should resolve any issues you experience while viewing Java content. To clear the Java cache, go to the "General" tab at the top of the Java control panel. Then click on the "Settings" button at the bottom of the window. Hit "Delete Files" and then confirm your decision to completely reset the Java cache. Now reload the web page you are trying to view, and the Java content should display correctly.
