You’ve just gotten rid of a pimple that looked like Mount Everest. The last thing you want is a reminder of it. Yet right there where it was is an ugly red mark that just won’t go away. That red bump is a macule: a temporary scar leftover from a pimple. The good news is that a macule typically fades within a few weeks. But until then, you may want a good makeup to hide it.
Foundation or Concealer?
The choice between foundation and concealer is going to depend on whether you have just a few acne scars to hide, or if the scars cover your face. If you only have a few to hide, a concealer is your best bet. But if your acne covers a large area of your face, then a foundation is the right choice for you. A good concealer is Physician’s Formula 4-1 Concealer Palette, which contains four different skin-tone colors that can be blended to match your own tone and hide scars. Physician’s Formula is hypoallergenic and formulated not to clog pores and cause breakouts. Another good concealer is Revlon ColorStay, which is designed to not rub or wear off. This concealer is a good one for healing blemishes as well, because it treats your pimples while hiding them.
When selecting a foundation to cover scars, it’s best to select a liquid foundation. Liquid foundations go on evenly for maximum coverage. Avoid powder foundations because they won’t cover your scars. Also stay away from crème-based foundations. These foundations contain oils that can clog pores and lead to further breakouts. Try to select foundations that are labeled oil-free or noncomedogenic because they won’t clog pores.
One foundation that offers a variety of colors for matching skin tones is L'Oréal TruMatch. Another is Covergirl's TruBlend Whipped Foundation. This is a matte foundation that looks natural, blends into your skin color and won’t cause breakouts.
