My Little Pony Cake Decorating Ideas

If you're planning a My Little Pony party, then you're in luck: the My Little Pony theme lends itself easily to many cake decorating techniques. Whether you're a skilled cake decorator, or just need a few ideas to get you started, you too can make an amazing My Little Pony cake.

Make a Rainbow Cake

  • The My Little Pony horses live in Ponyville, on a cloud under a rainbow. You can slice a bundt cake in half to make a small rainbow, or trim a rainbow shape from a sheet cake. Color the rainbow with M&M's or Skittles. Just before serving, add whipped cream to create fluffy clouds at each end of the rainbow.

My Little Pony Picture Cake

  • To create a cartoon cake, you can use a My Little Pony coloring book or a printable coloring page from the official Hasbro My Little Pony website (see References). Trace the image onto the shiny side of a piece of waxed paper. Tape the waxed paper onto a cookie sheet or a piece of cardboard. Use a piping tube to apply black frosting first, to the outlines of the image. Then, fill in each section with the appropriate color. When you're done "coloring," stick it in the freezer. The frozen picture can be laid easily over the top of a frosted cake. Then, remove the waxed paper and allow it to return to room temperature.

Real Pony Toy Cake

  • Spread green frosting on a sheet cake to create a grassy lawn. On one end, you can lay a winding "cobblestone" path of jellybeans or Chiclets gum. You can cut a blue raspberry Fruit Roll-up to resemble an irregular, rounded pond or curvy stream shape. Stand a few toy ponies on the "lawn" on top of the cake. Children love cakes with toys on top--there's something fun about licking the frosting from their feet!
