Wedding Anniversary Ideas for Wife

Save

Wedding anniversaries are the perfect time to show your wife how much you love her. Even if you're not the romantic type, with a little imagination you can do something that will sweep her off her feet. Think about the type of person your wife is and the things she likes to do. The important thing is not how much you spend, but the thought that you put into the gift.

Romantic

  • Nothing compares to a handwritten love letter. Whether it's your first anniversary or your 31st, let your wife know that love her as much as the day you exchanged vows. Think about your history together. Instead of just going out to dinner anywhere, pick a place that is significant to you. If you proposed at a restaurant, make reservations there. If you shared your first kiss on the beach or at a park, pack a picnic lunch and relive the moment.

Fun

  • If your wife's not the sentimental type, there are plenty of fun things you can do for your anniversary. Take her to a baseball game or other sporting event if she is a sports fan. Do something exciting together, like skydiving or bungee jumping. Send her on a scavenger hunt, searching for clues. The last clue can tell her where to meet you for a night on the town.

Flowers

  • A bouquet of fresh flowers is an easy anniversary gift, but it does not have to be without thought. Consider ordering an arrangement that contains the flowers used in your wife's bridal bouquet. Flowers don't have to be from a florist to make a unique anniversary present. If there is room in your yard, plant a flowering tree or shrub that will grow year after year, as will your love. You could also buy some of your wife's favorite flowers and plant them for her.

Jewelry

  • If you want to wow your wife with jewelry, there is a list of anniversary stones to help make the decision easier (see Resources). Diamond jewelry (such as an anniversary band) is suggested for the 10th anniversary. Pearls are suggested for the third anniversary, so pearl earrings or a pearl necklace would fit the bill. Of course, you can also buy a piece of jewelry that incorporates your wife's favorite gem, whether or not it is the traditional choice for your anniversary year.

Traditional

  • Each anniversary year has both modern and traditional gifts attached to them. For example, the traditional gift for a first anniversary is paper. With some creative thinking, "paper" can translate into several different gift ideas: a paper gift certificate for a day of pampering at a local spa, a book by her favorite author, pretty stationery or note cards or tickets to a concert. The modern first-anniversary gift is a clock, but instead of a wall clock, consider a wristwatch or the gift of time by offering to let her pick anything that the two of you can do to spend time together.
