- This is the largest one-day nationwide fund-raising event for breast cancer and takes place on the first Friday of October. It began in 1996 when Lee Jeans began a simple mantra: One day, one cause, one cure. The theory is simple: On the first Friday of Breast Cancer Awareness month, companies allow their employees to dress casually in denim jeans in exchange for a $5 donation to breast-cancer research. More than 3,000 companies signed up the first year and many more have joined since, raising a total of $75 million in the last 12 years. This year is sure to be a great success as well.
- This is a series of runs and fitness walks that take place across the United States throughout the month of October, as well as throughout the year. The series kicks off in Houston on Oct. 3 and has had more than a million participants since 2003. The Race for the Cure has raised a phenomenal amount of funds over the years, and has been successful in raising breast-cancer awareness. It's also a celebration of life for those who are breast-cancer survivors, while simultaneously honoring those who have lost their lives to this disease.
