In addition to food, gifts and a glowing future mommy, games are an essential component of a memorable baby shower. A hostess favorite, trivia games are relatively easy to prepare and add the spirit of friendly competition as you test the knowledge of your shower guests or of the guest of honor.

Trivia About the Mom or Dad

There are several entertaining trivia games that can be customized to feature your guest of honor. A classic baby shower trivia game involves interviewing the father to be about how he plans to parent, what he is looking forward to the most about being a dad and what he is the most worried about, in advance of the shower. You can do this verbally and have his answers written down, or for an extra touch, you can videotape him giving his answers. At the shower, the mom to be must say how she thinks the father answered each question. For each question she answers correctly, reward her with a small prize like a pacifier or jar of baby food. You can also "punish" her by making her chew a piece of gum or suck on a sour candy for each question that she misses.
If you would rather focus the trivia exclusively on the new mom, make up a quiz about her that includes questions that her friends may not know the answers to. Questions could include where she was born, how many siblings she has, or how many children she wants.

You can also see how up-to-date your shower guests are on their celebrity gossip by quizzing them on the names of famous children. You can either provide your guests with the names of the celebrity parents and have them fill in the baby name, or provide the baby name (with no last name) and have your guests guess the parents. Be sure to use celebrities from the last several decades so all of your shower guests are on equal footing, regardless of age.
Even more than actual celebrity children, your guests may be surprised to know how many television, cartoon or movie families they can name. Another fun trivia option is to develop a quiz based on these fictitious families. How many guests do you think can name all six children from "The Brady Bunch" or know the name of Barney and Betty Rubble's son from "The Flintstones?"

Since it is a baby shower, consider trying to stump your guests with interesting questions related to all things baby. Pre-made templates are available at no cost online, or you can be creative and develop your own. Questions can range from general baby information, such as typical birth weight or the average age a baby first smiles to baby records like the age of the oldest woman to give birth or the weight of the largest baby ever born.
Another baby-related trivia game involves well-known nursery rhymes. One option is to write down partial lyrics to several nursery rhymes like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and have your shower guests fill in the blanks. A variation on this game is to purchase an instrumental CD of nursery rhymes to play at the shower. As you play each song, the guests have to write down what they think the name is of the nursery rhyme.
