Tree Oil Root Repair Treatment for Damaged Hair
Tea tree oil comes from a native Australian tree callled Melaleuca alternifolia. The oil is prized for its strong anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, which makes it a wonderful medicine, acne solution and antiseptic. Tea tree oil is also great for your hair, helping problems such as dry hair, dry scalp and damaged hair.

When tea tree oil is applied to the scalp, it helps to unblock hair follicles. Not only does this allow new hair growth, but it's essential for keeping hair moisturized in the most natural way possible. Your scalp produces an oily secretion called sebum, which travels down the hair shaft and keeps it moisturized. Blocked follicles slow sebum production, and hair becomes dry and frizz-prone.
Tea tree oil shampoos are readily available at health food stores, but you can make your own by simply adding a few drops of the oil to your current shampoo (10 drops per 8 ounces is a good formula). For a more direct treatment, mix one part tea tree oil into 10 parts of a milder oil, such as olive or almond. Massage this into your scalp and let it sit for a few minutes before shampooing.

A dry, itchy scalp is not only uncomfortable, but it can lead to dandruff, and cause your hair's roots to suffer. Fortunately, the antiseptic properties in tea tree oil kill the yeast and fungi that cause dandruff, while relieving itchiness and clearing away any dead skin cells.
To treat dry scalp, use a tea tree oil shampoo or massage, as outlined above. Or take it one step further: Before bed, warm a few drops of tea tree oil in the palm of your hand, and massage all over the scalp. Sleep on it. Do this every night until the problem disappears.
Damaged roots and tips
-
Tea tree oil isn't just for your scalp: Apply it directly to hair for moisturizing and strengthening effects.
For a full hair treatment, massage the oil into your roots, then work your way down the cuticle until you reach the tips. Apply a little extra oil to the tips if you have split ends or breakage. Tea tree oil is very strong, so you don't need much; in fact, if you're heading out, dab a drop or two onto your fingertips, and comb through hair very lightly. No need to wash.
For serious damage, try adding tea tree oil to your regular deep conditioner and applying as usual. Or make your own using almond, avocado, jojoba, or olive oil and a few drops of tea tree.
