What Are Some Good Warm Emo Hair Colors?

The emo look is based on the visual interpretation of a type of rock music which made its first appearance in the mid-1980's and has gained popularity since 2000. The emo subculture has spread from music to fashion as a way to express the creativity and individuality of the music through your appearance. Though emo was previously associated with only black hair, the movement has now grown to include other brighter hair colors such as green, pink, red, blue and purple as a way to express the emotion and creativity of the emo movement.

How to Identify Warm Tones

Some colors look better on certain people because of their skin tone. The trick to picking a warm emo hair color is to notice the undertones in the hair color. Pick a hair color with a gold, brown or purple undertone. The way to identify a warm undertone is to look at the sample of the hair color on the synthetic hair that is usually attached to the hair color display. These display samples are dyed on white synthetic hair so that it gives a true impression of the color in the bottle. When you examine the sample, notice what color reflects in the light. The color that reflects is the undertone of the color.

Warm Color Variations

The majority of emo hair colors will come out with cool undertones, but the cool emo hair colors almost always have a warm counterpart. If you are looking for a pink hair color, try a color that has a little more purple in it, such as magenta. For blue hair, also look for something with purple undertones such as a teal or peacock blue. The colors are still just as vibrant and they will look better with your skin tone. The easiest colors to find in warm variations are black and red. Look for a rich red color, like cherry mixed with a bit of chocolate, to achieve a vibrant red without harsh undertones.

Using Warm Emo Colors to Highlight

If you want a dramatic look without using the color all over your head, an alternative option is to dye only sections of your hair using the emo hair color. When doing this, creatively choose the segments of hair to be dyed rather than a normal straight highlighting pattern, such as a large section of bangs or alternating segments on either side of your face. Also make sure that these sections are kept separate from the rest of your hair while being prepped for the emo dye. Emo hair colors require that you bleach your hair prior to application if your hair is not already very light. Especially when used in conjunction with darker hair colors, it is important to not mix the colors on a segment of hair being dyed.
