1980s Glam Rock Hair & Makeup Tips for Womenthumbnail
1980s Glam

Glam rock was all the rage in the early to mid 1980s. The first girl rock bands formed during this time. Women of all ages flattered the women in these glam rock bands by emulating their hair and makeup styles. If you were a "rocker chick," you didn't want to be confused with the Molly Ringwalds of the world. Today, women can do their '80's rock hair and makeup easily with just a few simple tricks.

1980s hair was long and shaggy. Ask your stylist to cut your hair into layers starting at the cheek bone to begin this look. If you aren't brave enough to chop your locks drastically, ask for long layers begining at the jaw line. This haircut can be transformed into a more modern look when needed.

      Style Your 1980s Hair

      • Get your rat tail comb and Aquanet. After you blow dry your hair, spray the roots with extra-hold hairspray. Hang your head forward so that your hair is upside down and blow-dry the hairspray on your roots. Tease any part of your hair that is not sticking up. Comb the un-teased portion of your hair over, working with your natural part. Finally, ad another coat of hairspray to the top.
If your hair is curly, tease and blow dry the roots, coat your hair with styling gel, and scrunch the curls until they are dry.

      1980s Glam Make Up

      • Start with a clean face, and apply concealer to the under-eye area. Pat it until it is dry. Next, apply foundation a shade darker than your concealer. Use a cosmetic sponge to blend it in. Use a large makeup brush to apply blush. Apply the blush from the apples of the cheeks up and around toward the corner of your eye. For 1980s glam makeup, you should be able to tell you are wearing blush, but don't look like a clown. Next, use blue shadow on the lid of your eye up to the crease. Apply a lighter shade of shadow between the crease and the brow bone. Blend this well, and use a flesh tone eyeshadow on the brow bone. All eye shadow should be metallic. Line your eyes with black eyeliner on the top and lower lid. Use a Q-tip to blend, and add a second coat of eyeliner. In the 1980s, blue mascara was all the rage. If you can find it, use it. If not, black mascara will work. Apply mascara heavily at the corners of the eyes. Line your lips with nude liner, and glittery lip gloss.
