Christmas can be one of the only times each year when the entire family is together. As such, it makes Christmas gatherings the perfect stage for announcing a pregnancy. Still, with all the excitement Christmas brings, you want to announce your pregnancy in a way that will stand out above the holiday fanfare and make a lasting impression. There are several creative ways you can tell your family about their newest member without resorting to your average dinner table announcement.
Use a service that allows you to make custom Christmas cards from your photos. Chose your sonogram photo as the front of the card, and add your due date in decorative lettering below the image. You can include a greeting inside that says "Happy Holidays from the newest member of the family." Send these out as you would your regular Christmas cards.
Buy a gift for your unborn baby, wrap it and place it under the tree far in the back so that it will be one of the last gifts distributed. Be sure to label it with something like "Our new baby" or "the baby due on September 1st." Allow another member of the family to discover the gift.
Purchase keepsakes for your family members with titles on them. For example, you may give your mother a gift that says "grandmother" on it, or give an "aunt" gift to your sister. This works best if it's your first baby; otherwise, the recipients may confuse the gift as being from your other children.
Before your holiday gathering, decorate your Christmas tree with baby items, like rattles, pacifiers and small toys. Top it with pink and blue ribbons rather than red or green trimmings.
Hang a baby-sized stocking with the rest of your adult-sized stockings and put your baby's name on it. You can also label it as "new baby" or something similar.
RSVP for holiday parties as two and a half guests. You could also create a custom label for a bottle of non-alcoholic wine and bring it to the party. Mark the label with "Non-alcoholic beverage reserved for Katie, the new mommy" and place it at the bar. Wait to see who notices the bottle.
If your family does a drawing or Secret Santa gift game, write something like "Katie and Jack's New Baby" on a piece of paper and slip it into the hat. When the family gathers around to draw names, they'll draw your surprise.
Use baby-themed wrapping paper on all of your family's gifts as a hint, and then announce your pregnancy when they ask about your paper choice.
Write your own Christmas carol and gather the family around the piano as you announce that you're expecting through song.
Replace all of your family's silverware with baby silverware at the holiday meal, then invite everyone to come in and sit down. They'll notice the baby spoons right away, giving you the perfect opportunity to make your announcement.
If your family attends church on Christmas, ask the church leader to include a prayer for your new baby at the end of the holiday sermon.
