Knives are sharpened by grinding against a hard, rough surface, typically stone, or a soft surface with hard particles, such as sandpaper. For finer knife sharpening, a leather razor strap is commonly used. When sharpening knives, the smaller the angle between the blade and stone, the sharper the knife will be, but the less side force is needed to bend the edge over. In this free video series, a bladesmith demonstrate how to sharpen knives with various materials and techniques. Find out how to sharpen a knife with leather, with a file, with a sharpening rod and with a honing kit. Make sure that knife blades are never dull with tips in these free videos.
