Series Summary

The witch is an icon of European history. Turning up in the 15th century as enemies of the Church, witches became hunted throughout Europe and New England. Before that time, according to many experts on the Occult, witchcraft was taken as anything from science to charlatanism. Charming warts off of villagers, treating those who caught the Plague, predicting marriages and revolutions- all in a day’s work for alchemists and spiritualists. Originally, the Church’s stance was similar to that of intellectuals today: powers coming from ghosts or spiritual forces simply do not exist. An interesting shift in theology and politics, fueled by upper and lower classes, led to the witch hunts as we learn about them today.

Many strange traditions have contributed to the rich heritage of Halloween, and in this series of fun and spooky educational videos, our expert in horror will show you how to make Halloween witch costumes. The “wicked witch” is commonly imagined as green-faced and clothed in black. In this series, Matt Cail will show you how to select a dress and hat, how to improve your costume with leggings and props, and how to apply makeup to the eyes, nose, chin, and neck to create your spooky witch.
