Most Chinese martial arts teach forms for the body to take based upon the movement of ch’i, the energy of the spirit. Most, if not all, of the Chinese fighting styles at least touch on this aspect of the relationship between the body and the spirit. The basic aim of the most visible part of martial arts, the physical training, is to discipline the body, mind and spirit to work together to focus and control the qi. Such a difficult endeavor usually costs students of the fighting arts a lifetime of physical, mental, and spiritual exercise and discipline. Bruce Lee is one of the few adherents of Chinese kung fu that not only mastered its fundamental principles, but transformed them in a very radical way. He created, not a new fighting style or a new martial art, but a new perspective, a new way of thinking. He called it Jeet Kune Do, which translates as the “Way of the Intercepting Fist.” JKD was radical in that Lee claimed it had no fixed forms and no predetermined movements. Borrowing from many of the Chinese arts, but largely doing away with much of their ceremony, Lee rocked the martial arts world to its core.In these free martial arts training videos, learn the basic principles behind Jeet Kune Do, using no way as way, and having no limitation as limitation. Our teacher will guide you in some beginning movements and techniques, including how to do a simple ready stance and how to combine kicks and punches for a powerful advantage in combat.
