My name is Deb Shoemaker, and I'm an art therapist with Integrated Therapy Associates. And now, I'm going to talk to you a little bit about art therapy techniques that are helpful in working with children. Some of the art therapy techniques that I use for children. Actually, they're varied and very individualized, very often. Because children tend to have somethings that they are particularly interested in, or some, or not interested in at all. So, one of my jobs, when I first meet a new client, that's a child, is to find out what they like. If one of their favorite things were Legos, I would definitely incorporate using Legos in our sessions. And then, use the metaphors that can be around building, building blocks, putting things together. Especially for a client, a young client, whose family is going through a divorce. Those Legos are just great metaphors for putting the pieces back together or building. Remember to always consult with a professional art therapist for more information.
