Hi, I'm JJ Virgin, nutrition expert of JJVirgin.com here today to talk to you about foods with natural folic acid, I must tell you at first though, folic acid is synthetic so actually these are foods rich in folate and why should you care? Well folate is critical for keeping homosistine low and when homosistine starts to creep up, it can increase your risk of heart disease, if you're pregnant, of neural tube defects and also dementia, so we want to make sure that we're getting a great daily dose of folate. So the foods that you can incorporate to your daily diet to increase your folate are and luckily these are pretty yummy things, number one, strawberries and oranges. Number two, avocado, eggs, lentils, actually all legumes are great here, and you know when I look at these, I'm always pushing legumes and lentils because they're such a great source of fiber as well and then Brussels sprouts which not only are a great source of folate, they also contain something called sophorophane which is an incredible antioxidant and can reduce your risk of cancers and spinach which is also rich in calcium. So as you'll see with these foods here, is that not only are they high in folate, out here we have eggs that are in rich in phosacoline, and E and strawberries of course are incredible with their antioxidants and oranges have something called corsotine which is a natural antihistamine and avocados besides having healthy fats also have incredible antioxidant called glutephion. So each of these food are high in folates but they're also pack a double punch of other great nutrients. So be sure to incorporate these foods into your daily diet.
