Hi, I'm Hilary Talbott, acupuncture physician and clinical herbalist. Today, we will be discussing acupressure for pneumonia. Now pneumonia is a serious medical condition so I'm just going to show you some basic percussion techniques that you can have someone else perform on you in order to help break up some of the phlegm in the lungs so that you can expectorate it a little more easy. So the lungs are located here in the thoracic part of the body and just some light percussion is what we call it from between oft perspective can be helping to break up the phlegm. Now if you're doing this on an elderly person, of course, you want to use caution and do not use firm pressure because you could break a rib very easily and the same thing goes for pediatrics. So the first thing I'm going to show you is kind of cupping your hands just as if you were trying to hold water in the palms of your hands and you want to make contact just over the lungs as if you were playing the drums but not with a flat hand, with a cup and so it makes this kind of sucking sound. So don't be afraid of sound when you're using percussion and if that's not enough, you can use your hands and actually pummel. So you want to make a soft kind of fist like a loose closed fist and repeat. Now depending on where you are in the process of pneumonia whether it's something that you have gotten more than once or that is chronic or you're actually actively experiencing pneumonia, there are different things that we can do for you from cupping to herbal medications to actual acupuncture and massage. So if this is a condition that you experience often, I suggest that you seek out your local acupuncture physician at I'm Hilary Talbott, and that was acupressure for pneumonia.
