Hi, I'm Amy Newman, fitness expert at Gold's Gym, and creator of The Perfect 10 Workout, and today I'm going to show you how to do some exercises with locking in the knees in yoga. In yoga when we practice doing standing poses we lock in our knee, meaning that we squeeze the knee in to where our outer thigh is actually kind of bulging out and where your knee has a little bulge on top. That's how you know you've locked in your knee. It gets that energy going through your body and in Standing Pose like Tree Pose, then you lock in your foot into the inside of your leg, inhale and hold that Tree Pose, locked in, breathe regularly, empty your mind of all thoughts, shoulders are in, neck is long, knee is locked. Feel your thigh nice and strong. You want to engage that knee, don't have it bent at all, then you come down. You engage both your knees, take in a deep breath, bring your heels together, stretch up. Then we're going to go on the other leg, engage your other knee, nice and tight, lock it in, bring your foot in to your inner thigh. You can do it in your inner ankle if you have problems balancing. Then inhale, lift up, lock that knee in, feel it in your thigh, breathe naturally. Relax your mind and try not to think of anything. Try to be as still as you can and step back down.
