Hi, I'm Amy Newman, fitness expert and creator of The Perfect 10 Workout, and I'm going to tell you about the importance of abdominal breathing while doing abdominal exercises. It's very important to get a wide variety of breathing in your abs. You have major muscles in your abdominals and you inhale deeply and exhale slowly as you crunch. If you exhale as you are crunching you are going to get a nice tight abdominal area. If you inhale while you are crunching, you could actually make yourself a poochy stomach, which we don't want to do. And it would be muscular as well, so you would have, like, a muscular belly. We don't want to do that. We want to exhale and squeeze as tight as we can, inhaling deeply through the diaphragm, through the nose, filling our body up and exhaling getting oxygen to those muscles. If we tend to breath shallow you can get dizzy as well. So, there's a lot of important reasons why you should breathe correctly while doing abdominal exercises.
