Hi, my name is Lisa and I'm a Hairstylist in Wilmington, North Carolina and I'm here to talk about how to hold haircutting scissors. This is a pair of haircutting shears actually; it's what we call them. Mine has a, kind of an offset alignment because I have a longer thumb than normal people. So to, to keep your wrist healthy and avoid the risk of getting any kind of tension build up or carpal tunnel or anything like that; you wan to be able to hold your shears where you are not bending this are a whole lot. So when you're actually cutting, you want to position your client to where you're moving as little as possible and you're, the comfort of your hands are one of the most important things as you work. So, if I'm cutting a, a straight cut across the bottom, I'm going to position my body directly in front of the hair that I'm going to cut and I'm going to cut without moving my wrist as; moving in my wrist as little as possible to ensure that after I do this over and over and over in a day, I'm not going to wake the next day with my hands numb. And that is how you hold hair cutting shears.
