"Hello! My name is Rebekah Larimer and I'm an internationally certified horse trainer and instructor. And today, I'm going to show you how to measure a western saddle. The reason why you want to measure a western saddle is to basically be comfortable for the rider. Just as like you get your suits or dresses measured and fitted, you want to make sure that the saddle fits you, the rider as well so you can have a very nice, long, comfortable ride. And you're going to take a simple tape measure, you're going to bring the tape, the front of the tape measure to the back of the pummel and then bring it all the way back to the seam of the cantle just right in front of there, and you want to make sure that it isn't down here, nice and low, it needs to be up, it needs to be vertical or straight across. And so if you look this out, it's about 16 1/2 inches long. Saddles come in varying different sizes and from child size all the way up to adults and very large adults, and they normally have a half inch increments. So, good luck on your saddle search."
