"We'll talk about how to use a choke collar. On these days, there have been many great innovations and much more effective tools that are much safer for your dog. Choke collars are chains that go around the neck and slip. They get tighter when they're pulled on. And so this can cause damage to the trachea and to the spine of the dog; so probably I, it wouldn't be a tool that I would recommend; it's something I no longer use in my tool box. There are really great no pull harnesses that dogs accept immediately that are asset or more effective than a chain collar and they don't cause any damage to the neck of the dog. One of them is the Sensible Sensation harness. The leash clips in the front; they're very easy to put on. The leash is then attach to the ring on the front of the dog and then the, when the dog is walking and you're keeping the leash between you and the dog; if there is any pressure or pulling on the leash, if the dog gets to the end of the leash and continue to pull, they will be redirected back around to you. So in this manner, as she pulls, she's brought back around to me and so they, it's very effective and it works mechanically. It's, you know, human ingenuity at work. We figured out that if you have a little bit of tightening at the shoulders and clip the leash at the front of the dog; that when the dog pulls the dog will be redirected to you. The other thing that's really fabulous about this is that, it gives you an opportunity to reward your dog for giving you attention which is the whole thing that makes the dog much more pleasant to walk. That's what makes a, a dog a good walker. Here's another tool that's even more powerful; the most powerful tool on the market today, I would say. Many dogs find this to be a little concerning. This is a Gentle Leader Head Halter; works on the same principle as a horse. It fits over the nose, snaps behind the neck and the leash would attach right here and of course the principle is, as with the horse, you control the head of the animal, you control the whole animal. And this is an extremely powerful tool; but as you can see from Lady's reaction, takes a lot of careful planning and work with your dog to get them comfortable with it. So it just feels a little different; most dogs aren't use to having something on their head but many dogs do get used to it; also sometimes provides a calming effect for dogs which is helpful if your dog is having some difficulty on leash when meeting people or other dogs."
