"This is Amelia Smith on behalf of Expert Village. We'll be talking about the care and styling of curly hair. Curly hair actually does need a lot more care than your basic straight hair. You want a shampoo and conditioner that works with your hair type there is fine curly hair, there is thick and course curly hair basically all curly hair lacks moisture verses protein. What you are looking for is something that has a little bit more moisture in it and you don't ever want to use a brush on your hair. Not unless it's blown out straight only use a comb. What I suggest is you keep a comb in the shower a wide tooth comb something like this it can be larger. After you shampoo your hair you shampoo the scalp you don't need to shampoo the ends there is not enough dirt build up on here unless you are rolling around with pigs you really don't need to shampoo the ends of your hair. So you want to start by shampooing your scalp and then when you are rinsing the shampoo it's going to go down the ends and clean the rest of the hair. The conditioner will actually be applied from the ends to about 2-3 inches from your hair line or from your scalp. Then you take your comb and you actually comb your conditioner through that is going to get all your knots and tangles out. When you rinse that instead of messing your hair up with the towel what you want to do is just squeeze it out with a towel. So you would grab your towel and just squeeze the moisture out of your hair, that is it. You can also take the towel and start pushing the movement back into your hair so you get that movement back that you just combed out in the shower. But I do not ever recommend using a brush because what the brush is going to do is going to break that curl apart and it's going to cause it to puff and make your hair really big. Anyone with curly hair knows that is not what we want."
