"Hi this is Sally Watkins with Century Travel in Austin, Texas. Let's talk about travelers health insurance. I am a firm believer after twenty plus years in this business that everyone ought to have it. Many of the U.S. health insurance companies will not cover for anything out of the United States. Some do, many do not. Social Security does not cover for anything outside of the United States. And check also if your company says it does cover you out of the country, see if it is primary coverage or if you are expected to pay first. Pay the hospital, pay the doctor, and then put in for reimbursement. You can cover yourself for health coverage, medical treatment abroad, or medical evacuation if need be with a health insurance policy that usually also includes things like luggage delay, trip cancellation things of that sort. You can cover as little of the actual trip cost as you want, and you still can get the full medical and medical evacuation coverage. There are also companies that sell purely medical evacuation coverage for travelers abroad. You want to be careful in thinking about where you are going, and what kind of health system is to be found there in determining how much medical coverage you want to carry for yourself. Use good judgment, do some checking online, and you can, or ask your travel agent. And you can figure out places that you ought to make sure to have substantial coverage, and others that probably the healthcare provided there will suffice, though you may have to pay for it."
