"Aloha, my name is Nalani, and we're here at the Maikai Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In this clip, we're going to show you how to make a feather lei. There are many different kinds of leis. There are Hawaiian leis for boys and there are flower leis, but in this case we're going to show you how to make a feather lei. Let's show you some of the supplies that we're going to be using. First of all, we're going to need a velvet ribbon usually the color of the feathers that you're going to use, thread to match, a thin needle, a scissors, and we have our pre-cut feathers here. So, let's begin to make our feather lei. First of all, you're going to take the ribbon and lay it out flat. You have your needle and thread, and you're going to grab your first feather. Now, if the feathers are not bent you simply take it between your thumb and your first finger and you're going to just bend it a little bit on the stem of the feather with your fingernail so it has a nice curve. You lay it flat onto the velvet ribbon, and you're going to come up the front; I mean the back and pull it right through, and make sure that when you go back down you have the hard part of the feather in your thread. After you've finished this process all the way down to the end of the ribbon you're going to end up with a beautiful feather lei. Now, what I like to do when I'm done is to put it on a headpiece, and this way you can either wear it this way on top of your forehead or as a regular headband. This is Nalani, from the Maikai Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Thank you for watching."
