"Hi, I'm Fritz Gaspard, Chess Teacher at Chess In the Schools in New York City. How to play Speed Chess? In order to play Speed Chess, you need two things. You need a Chess clock; in this case a Chess clock is set for three minutes for each side. So I have three minutes to complete the game and you have, you need an opponent; in this case Chess expert, Shawn Smith; he also has three minutes to complete the entire game. So I must checkmate Shawn before my three minutes are up or I lose the game and the same for him. "Shawn are you ready?" "I'm ready, good luck." "Good luck." This looks like Shawn has a serious advantage in this game. Okay. I think he has too many pawns and one of his Pawns will Queen and I think I probably have to give up because I don't think I can stop these Pawns. So basically we're able to make probably fifty moves in, for each of us, I would say. "What do you think Shawn?" " I agree and we're almost instantly". Right. In about two and a half minutes each, I still have thirty seven seconds left; Shawn has thirty three seconds left. But a Chess expert can checkmate with a King and a Queen, probably less than three seconds. So any way I was hopeless at this point and that's why I get my butt. But basically that's how a Chess, a Speed Chess game is played. You're playing basically on principles. If you can calculate a variation; you see a good combination; you go for it; you stop and think a little bit. But most of the time, you're driven by what you think should be good. You're trying to build up your pieces in the opening; you're trying to find maybe one little combination in the middle game or in the end game; you're trying to, once you have the advantage, you're going for a King and Pawn ending that, maybe winning. And you may notice that Shawn traded Rooks when he had, realized he had an advantage and I couldn't stop his Pawns."
