"Remember that career assessment is a way to, the way that we help students organize what they already know about themselves in terms of their personality, in terms of their skills, in terms of their values, and in terms of their interest. So it is information that is already inside of the students they just don't kind of know how to put it into words. How to explain themselves. Career assessments don't tell you what to do. Nothing tells anybody what to do. We are trying to organize information, we're trying to paint a picture of ways that you can take the next step. So when a student comes to us, and they do an assessment the two that I will highlight now are in terms of the their values, and in terms of their interest. The way that we can take a look at that is when a student takes the assessment, and we have the results of the assessment we are then able to say according to this assessment it looks like this particular collection of majors might be a good fit for you. We talk about values with students in terms of, more in terms of career decision making when they are leaving the university or even getting an internship. Values are going to be work place values. Do they value all kinds different of values that are really at the core of how we operate out in the world of work, and really out in our lives. And values decisions are going to be very personal, and so when we interview students, when we are going through the process of career development values are always a really strong part of a candidate to talk about. So I would encourage students to be open-minded, don't over think the assessment, don't over think the questioning. Just like when we talk about multiple choice test go with your first selection, don't go back. Same thing in this type of a context. When we are working with assessment we always give the assessment, and say when you are done I need for you to email me right away, and let's make an appointment so you can come back, and I can help you understand what all this means in terms of making a decision about a major or about a career."
