"Hello my name is Remy Dou I'm a science teacher here at Miami Christian School in Miami, Florida. Let's talk a little bit about the law of conservation of energy. The law of conservation of energy basically states that energy cannot be neither created nor destroyed. I'll give you a perfect example. Let's say we take a pendulum and we take the weight on a pendulum and pull it back. That weight is going to have something called a potential energy. In other words it's going to have the potential for movement. When I release that weight the weight is going to travel along the arc of the pendulum and come back to the same height. That is called a conservation of energy. In other words it didn't lose any of its potential energy but was able to return to its initial potential energy. Now obviously if I let go of a pendulum some of that energy is going to dissipate as heat but it doesn't get destroyed it just gets converted."
