"Hi. My name is Bill Rae. I'm president of Alumni Financial Services out of Seminole, Florida. I've been in the finance and the business world for well over thirty years. Today, we have a topic. You ask, "What is Medicare?" What is Medicare? Do you have two hours? I'm just kidding. Medicare is a government program that came into law back in 1965. I believe it was July 30, 1965, passed under the Social Security Act. It's intended recipients are generally people sixty-five years or older or are in the retirement community. However, there are those who can qualify who are under sixty-five if you have total disability or have a disability to a degree that you cannot function in society. So, that's a whole other topic. Medicare for over sixty-five generally is known in the streets for three parts: part A, part B and part D, although there are many other parts to this bill. Part A in general terms is hospitalization, skilled nursing -- in other words, buildings. Part B would be your doctors and treatments and things that come out of that. And then of course part D, which is a recent add to this program, is all about the prescription medicines. Medicare is a vast and a complex program, and to try and explain it in a minute or two would be foolish. So let me tell you this: if you want more information on Medicare, I would recommend you call 1-800-MEDICARE or visit the government website, www.medicare.gov. It's vast. It contains a lot of information. So, pull up with a cup of coffee and do some reading. Anything you want to know is in there. Then, of course, there are individuals like ourselves and professionals out there who deal with the senior market that have become skilled in understanding what your needs might be and how to fill them. So, there's many sources for you to get whatever information you're seeking about, but in general terms, Medicare is a federally funded program, and it is aimed for the retirement folks and folks who can't participate in the work field. My name is Bill Rae. I'm with Alumni Financial Services, and as always, we're here to help you build true wealth."
