"My name is Dr. Paul Kamitsuka. I'm the hospital epidemiologist at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. The question is how to prevent the swine flu. The most important issues here first in terms of personal protection is to be sure to wash your hands on a frequent basis. Not only with soap and water, but also alcohol gel hand sanitizers are very useful for this. In addition, to keep your distance from people who display symptoms of the flu. That would include fever, aches, cough, stuffy nose, sore throat. In addition, if you come down with symptoms of swine flu yourself the symptoms we just talked about. It is important to not go to work, not to expose other people who may then become infected. So the key issues here in terms of preventing the spread of swine flu are first of all hand washing, keeping distance from ill people, and also if you become ill avoiding exposing others to yourself."
