"Hi, I'm Dr. Joshua Vogel with Carolina Ob-Gyn, a division of Wilmington Health Associates and I'm going to talk to you today about how to maintain libido after menopause. Probably the biggest issue here is one of unrealistic expectations. The natural course of a person's life is for the libido to decline; one should not expect to have the same level of sex drive at age fifty or sixty as one did at age twenty or thirty. Having said that, it is very possible to maintain a healthy, active sex life and sexual lifestyle. Often it does require greater effort on one's part. One cannot expect to become as easily aroused as you did when you were younger. Some of the very common physical symptoms that get in the way would be vaginal dryness which is very treatable and obviously, vaginal dryness or other things that cause intercourse to be painful are going to greatly discourage you from being interested in sex. So the first thing you need to do is see your doctor and address any of these kind of symptoms you might have. The next thing you do, need to do is make sure that you set aside focused time to be alone and quiet and private and have your sexual time with your partner. Make a date; make, set the mood; light candles and lead to, put, put in the effort; but if you put in the effort, you should find that you can maintain a very healthy, active sex life. This has been a discussion of maintaining libido after menopause."
