Video Transcript

"Hi, today we're going to talk about how to avoid white spots on your nails, and the best way to do this, and the most common cause for this, is that you might have hit your nail on something hard, such as a counter top or the car door, or the handle as you're opening your car. These are the most common causes. You do want to determine what the white spots on the nails are being caused by, because in some cases, you may need to see a physician. Typically, we consider them to be small traumas, injuries, or actual bruises to the nail. Another common cause is when you're peeling your nail polish, or picking at your fingernail, using your nail as a tool. These can also actually cause you to have a white spot on your nail. If these types of causes are not something that you think is what is giving you the white spot on your nail, then you may consider seeing a physician, because it could be determined by a physician, that you have something called leukonychia. Leukonychia is oftentimes an underlying infection in the body, that is being exhibited through the nail bed, or it can often be a deficiency in vitamins, and somewhere in your diet, but the doctor needs to determine through blood work and other diagnosis means. What you want to do then, is see a doctor, because certainly your nail technician cannot diagnose, treat, or cure these types of problems that you have in your nail bed, and just be very careful with your nails, and again, it's called leukonychia. It's not something that's simple and done by banging your hands on the counters, so that would be how you would avoid them."
