"If you have a proof silver coin do you have the most valuable produced silver coin produced by the US mint, maybe, maybe not. Hi I'm Rui and we are going to talk about what is a silver proof coin? In the world of coin collecting silver proof coins are definitely the most desirable silver coins. Why? They are easily collectible especially for beginners and they come in actual sets in your sets and they look incredible. A silver proof coin is basically a silver coin that has been incredibly highly polished so it has an awesome sheen on it and when you hold it up to a regular coin it looks much shinier and you can tell the difference between the two coins. The US mint started to producing silver proof coins in the 1800's but Americans didn't start collecting them and it didn't come in vogue until about the 1930's and that is when people started seriously collecting the silver proof sets of these coins. The most recent set was actually produced in the 1990's and those are the statehood quarters which have almost run their course of all 50 states. The US mint still continues to produce silver proof sets in dollars, half dollars and dimes so if you are looking to collect especially silver proof sets make sure that you buy them from a reputable dealer and they are marked such as this one. This silver proof 1961 25 cent piece, the George Washington quarter, once it is produced and proof is actually sealed, this is an acid proof paper that is wrapped around any point to protect it from any dirt or air or especially finger prints which can easily ruin the shine of the actual quarter and the silver coins. Again I'm Rui, good luck collecting."
