"Hello my name is Greg Koenig owner of fitness for life. And today we are going to discuss how to lose weight, strength training or during strength training. Strength training basically you are expending energy and we want to try to expend more energy then we are taking in. The one thing about weight training is the heavier the weight, the deeper fiber you work on the body. You got a superficial layer of fiber and you've got the deep layer of fiber and what we try to do is progressively work our way with the weights to a heavier, to the deeper level of fiber. So it's going to cause this, generally you do less reps but you will expend more energy per rep. A lot of big multi muscle movements are going to require more energy expenditure then say a bicep curl. For instance, a squat is going to burn probably fifty times more calories then say a bicep curl. So if your goal is to lose weight through strength conditioning you are better off sticking with compound movements. Multi joint, multi muscle movements as opposed to isolated movements. Triceps extension, bicep curls, calf raises, if you ever notice when you do this particular movements you never get winded. You are never laboring as far as your breathing, but if you do a lat pull, or a seated row, or lunges, squats, you are expending a lot of energy because there are a lot of muscles that are being engaged in this particular movements. So to wrap it up, if you are trying to lose weight with strength conditioning, you are better off sticking with bigger more compound movements as opposed to smaller isolated movements. Again this Greg Koenig with fitness for life and this wraps up our review of how to lose weight strength training."
