"Hello, my name is Eric White and we're going to talk about how to choose a Telnet program. Now what you're looking for is a Telnet client and you're going to need a few things. You're going to need the server address of the server that you want to Telnet in to and of course the client software. There are literally hundreds of Telnet clients out there. My personal favorite is called PuTTy. It's modular, it's small. It runs of one executable. The way you find PuTTy is, well you can Google for Telnet programs. It'll show up first in the list. Or you can just Google for PuTTy. So I Googled for Telnet Programs and there it is, first one at the top of the list. This is the PuTTy free Telnet SSH client site. The operative word here is free. Now that's the best part of PuTTy is that it's a free program. We go here and we click on download, and then we're going to look in the binaries here to download and we're going to look for our version. Now I'm using WindowsXP, which is right here and I'm going to pick the very first one, PuTTy EXE. PuTTy EXE, the main program allows you, either use PuTTy or SSH. So you're getting a little bit more bang for your, well free buck. So we'll go ahead and download it. So it's really quick. I'm just going to open my downloads folder, here's PuTTy right here. Double click it, Windows says ..ahh. You sure you want to do this? Yes, I want to do this. So I hit run and here is the PuTTy configuration window. Well, right off it's set to SSH, so you want to click on Telnet, see port twenty three, the Telnet port. Put in your server address and then hit open. That's going to automatically go out to your Telnet server and allow you to connect via command line. And that's how you choose a Telnet client."
