"Hi, I'm Chris Bryce from Superservice.com. Today I'm going to talk to you about how to buy a wireless modem for a desktop computer. There's a couple of things to keep in mind with the wireless modem for a desktop. The main one is that there's a lot of different letters out there to describe the different speeds and bandwidths and ranges of the wireless modems and wireless routers. So there's As, Bs, Gs, Ns, a whole ton of different letters out there to describe the different technologies. The latest is the wireless N. Now that's going to be the furthest range and also the best speeds that you can get out of a wireless connection. So if you're sitting in your home or office and you need to have a five hundred to a thousand foot range, even sometimes two thousand feet with any obstructions, then you're going to want to go with the wireless N. If you just need one to two hundred feet, or maybe four hundred maximum, then you could be safe going with a wireless G or even a wireless G Mimo, which is maximum in, maximum out. When you go to get the wireless modem for the desktop computer, you're going to also want to look at the connection of your computer. Most of these are going to be a USB connection, so that's what we'll focus on. When you get the USB connection, there's two different styles. One style is very similar to a flash drive, and just plugs into your USB connection. The other style has an extension to it, which can be plugged in like a flash drive, or you can have a desktop stand, which allows you to locate the USB wireless modem either on your desk or table, or even sometimes on top of your monitor, to get better signal reception. This just extends the capability of the modem so that if you have a tower that happens to be on the ground level, it's going to allow you to access the signal a little bit better by extending it up on top of your desk or on your monitor. Those are the main things to consider when you're buying a wireless modem for your desktop computer."
