"Hi, I'd like to talk to you about funny answering machine greetings or voicemail greetings if you like. My name is Kathy Pabst Robshaw, total telephone effectiveness. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, humor, you have to be careful, not everybody thinks what's funny is what you think is funny. So be careful. And also think of it's a business or pleasure, who is making, who is calling you, what should they hear. The first thing that people want to hear when they call you is that they're through to the right number, and maybe your name if you so desire to use your name, some people don't, speak slowly, speak clearly, and think about maybe going onto on - what's it called? Online soundboard. And you can download celebrity voices to use on your answering machine or voicemail to create some humor. Some phrases that I've heard that made me go hysterical when I made the phone call calling friends of mine, one said you know I'm a couch potato, why are you bothering me? Another one said, let me think, what was it, I can see your number on my caller ID, I'm not going to pick up the phone, leave a message. Okay. Another one said you know I'm not here, why are you calling me now? That was quite fun. So combine those things with some maybe celebrity voices , make it a funny answering machine. Remember who is calling, that's what you have to bear in mind at all times. Speak slowly, don't ramble, be short, be brief, and be funny. Kathy Pabst Robshaw, telephone effectiveness."
