Video Transcript

"Hi I'm Tod Amazeen. I've been an Internet consultant for 15 years. I'm going to show you how to conduct an advanced Internet search. For this demonstration I'm going to use Google. So open your web browser and type in Google.com. And there are a couple of different ways to do an advanced Internet search. The first is to scroll over and click on advanced search to the right of the text entry box. Here you can see there are several options for performing and advanced search. We can find web pages that have all of the words that you are looking for; an exact word or phrase or one or more of these words. You can also restrict the results so if there are any words that you don't want to be on the web pages that you are searching for type that in here. And here you can control the how many results per page, the language of the results that come back to you, the file type or you can search within a specific website or domain. We can also perform some of these same functions right within the Google search bar. Let's say I want to find a website that contains both the words cat and dog. I would type cat and then in all caps the word and then I would type the word dog and hit enter. Now every result will have both the word cat and dog. Now I can also search for a website that has one of two or more words but not necessarily all of the words you are looking for. So if I want to find a website that references either cats or dogs I can type cat the word or in all caps and then the word dog and hit enter. Now you see each of these results will have either the word cat or dog. And if I want to find an exact word or exact phrase I'm going to click on the Google search box and we're going to put quotation marks around it. So I'll type quote Vegas or bust and end quote and then hit enter. And you'll see all of the results have the exact phrase Vegas or bust. You've just learned how to conduct an advanced Internet search. I'm Tod Amazeen."
