"Norman Bates need not apply. As you'll recall, that was the name of the man in Alfred Hitchcock's movie "Psycho". How to avoid being creepy on a first date. This is Dr. Paul, Author of "Boomer Girls, a Boomer Woman's Guide to Men and Dating" and host of "Ask Dr. Paul". You are what you are and if you're creepy, you're going to be creepy on a first date. Try to not be and how to not be creepy is don't refer to things that are creepy. Often times people get involved with the morbid, and if you're involved with the morbid, that's creepy. If you talk about serial killers or talk about a horrible crime that occurred in your area, that's creepy. People reject that. They back off and you can watch the body language of the people backing off. So don't go into the crime scenes. You don't need that. Don't go into the CSI series. Stay away from that. What you want to do is keep things upbeat. Often times in addition, the way in which you look at someone can be creepy. Men, do you hear that? Don't leer, okay? Try to keep your eyes above the neck. Don't be creepy because it doesn't pay off. You will lose big time. Try to not be the local friendly psycho. It doesn't work. There are no local friendly psychos. They are what they are too. So keep it above board, smile, keep it light, and you'll probably not be creepy. Now if it's Halloween and you have a need to be creepy and it's a festive thing, that's different. But remember, Halloween is one day out of the year that we all can become creepy and be acceptable, but on a normal basis, that's not the way to go. This is Dr. Paul. May your fantasies of today be your realities of tomorrow."
