"Getting to know you, getting to know all about you. That was a famous song from the musical "My Fair Lady". So how are you going to approach the best getting to know you questions. This is Dr. Paul author of "Boomer Girls, a Boomer Woman's Guide to Men and Dating" and host of "Ask Dr. Paul. Getting to know you questions have to surround themselves around those questions that do not solicit a response of yes and no. They are open end questions. For example, where are you from? How did you like that? When did you get here? Those are very simple questions. Getting to know you questions are important because you are doing just that getting to know the other. Now in that you do not want to set up yourself like you are the Gestapo asking the third degree and now we want to know about this or that. No you want to not be intrusive but you want as the question asks to get to know them. Who, what, why, where, when and how? If you start asking about someone's job, people may think that is intrusive. In that who, what, why, when and how there is going to be an area that someone is going to click into. Where are you from? Well I'm from Kalamazoo, Michigan and I want to tell you about our hockey team. There you are home free and that person is going to start telling you about themselves because they are going to start telling you about what they like, their hockey team. So getting to know you questions ought not be intrusive but they need to be informational so make them informational. Don't get into somebody's personal business and yet let them know that with your questions you really want to know more about them. This is Dr. Paul, may your fantasies of today be your realities of tomorrow."
