I'm Virginia Intelisano mental health therapist, registered intern with the state of Florida and I'm here today to talk to you about how to become a counselor. The first thing you want to do is graduate from a high school and get yourself accepted into a four year program, a college or a university. You can either major in psychology or major in any other line of work. After you receive your bachelors degree you can apply for a masters degree. As a masters level student you'll be in a mental health counselor program or social work counselor program. After you graduate from your masters you're going to apply for work and do an internship. The internship usually takes about two years to complete. However you are making money all along the way. You're making money after your internship in your masters level program. And you're going to start out at about thirty to thirty-five thousand dollars a year. You can become a masters level clinician or a licensed clinician just two years after you graduate."
